Book Description:
In the United States alone, over 60 million youth participate in organized sports. This book is designed to assist coaches of these youth by providing a fundamental understanding of sports nutrition and how to correctly fuel athletes for athletic performance. Chapters include the basics of sports nutrition, fuel for the body, timing and type of meals and snacks, fluids and hydration, dietary supplements, eating disorders, and body image, and special considerations for athletes such as those who are vegetarian, diabetic, or have a food allergy. The final chapter provides practical suggestions for parents to appreciate the importance of sports nutrition for their athlete. A greater knowledge and application of sports nutrition will assist in optimal sports performances as well as improved overall health and well-being for the athlete. (Imprint: Novinka)

Book Reviews

“Proper nutrition for athletic performance is one of the most overlooked, under addressed, misrepresented, and misunderstood topics for optimal sport performance at all levels...but even more so for youth sport coaches, parents, and players. Sports Nutrition: A Guide for Youth Sport Coaches will help coaches, athletes, and their parents make sure their players’ “tanks” are full of the right fuel at the right times for their sport!” - Diana Cole, USA Volleyball Coaching Education Director

"Having worked in international for over 40 years, I've seen firsthand how nutrition can decide the outcome of a match. This is particularly evident in youth sports, and many coaches lack the fundamental knowledge of proper nutrition necessary to effectively fuel their athlete. This book is highly recommended for any coach, whether youth or adult, looking to improve the health and performance of their athletes." - Luke St. Onge, General Secretary of the International Federation

"Youth sport athletes often approach the playing field with limited attention paid to the importance of proper nutrition as a catalyst to athletic performance. In addition to focusing on skill as a necessary component for athletic performance, youth sport coaches need to pay attention to the importance of fueling the body. This book provides the coach with information needed to work with the athlete and their parents to insure the body is properly fueled for activity." - Donna Dunaway, Retired Professor Kinesiology, Executive Director SHAPE America Southern District
