Authors: Jack C. Watson II and Steven T. Portenga
Abstract: The topic of certification in applied sport psychology is one that when mentioned, often raises many different emotions within those discussing the topic. While organizations such as the Association for Applied Sport Psychology have created certifications to cover practice in applied sport psychology, in many cases these certifications require updating in order to comply with recognized standards for certifications. The current article overviews the importance of certification in advancing the profession of sport psychology, and provides a rationale for making changes that will bring the CC-AASP certification in line with the standards set by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (2007).
