Tracing the Pathway to Passion for a Preferred Physical Activity (pp. 137-154) $100.00
Authors:  (Anaurene Roy, Balbir Singh and Tony Morris)
Abstract:
This case study describes how subjective experiences contributed to the shaping of
passion for physical activity. Using an open-ended interview, we captured the narrative of
physical activity in the life of a person with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The individual‘s
experience was interpreted through narrative analysis. This focused on four main
dispositions, viz: a) Active lifestyle, b) Pathway to passion development, c) Social
systems, and d) Inner harmony, which described the subjective experiences that paved the
way for the development of passion towards physical activity. A unique finding was the
role of social support in the individual‘s life that encouraged the individual to participate
in different activities. The study highlights how personal decisions to engage or
disengage in a physical activity are influenced by subjective experience.
