Organizing the Sensory System of Individuals with Rett Syndrome through Music (pp. 561-570) $40.00
Authors:  Cochavit Elefant and Meir Lotan
Abstract:
Rett syndrome (RS) is a genetic disorder effecting mainly females. Due to its debilitating characteristics, physical activity and physiotherapy is highly recommended however often disliked and avoided by these individuals. Recent findings suggest that fear of movement, associated with this syndrome and interfering with movement, are connected to a skewed proprioceptive system. Due to the debilitating nature of fear of movement in this group of clients, and with the aim of preventing the ill outcomes of motionless life, there is a need to moderate incoming sensory input. Music, and Music Therapy (MT) has long been suggested as a preferred therapy intervention, and music per-se is usually highly effective and greatly loved by individuals RS.
