Abstract: The synthesis and characterisation of various L(ayered)D(ouble)H(ydroxide) thin film types are overviewed here, together with applications. Those substances are only considered that keep their layered structure in the form of thin film and in the case of composite structures LDHs play the role of the host. Methods of preparation and structural features are discussed for the pure LDH, the inorganic-inorganic as well as organic-inorganic host-guest complex films. Optical and conductive properties of the films are displayed together with any other important properties with an emphasis on applications as sensors of various kinds.
