Abstract: Cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) and pretransitional twist grain boundary (TGB) and blue phases (BPs), owing the self-organized periodical structure, sensitive to external fields, have provide several opportunities for creation new photonic and optoelectronic devices. In this paper results in electrooptics and photoptics of CLCs and pretransitional phases will be reviewed. The review consists 5 paragraphs. 1. Electrooptics of cholesterics. 2. Photooptics of cholesterics. 3. Light induced permanent gratings and displays in a luminescent dye doped cholesterics 4. Electrooptics and photooptics of blue phases. 5. Mirrorless lasing in an intermediate between cholesteric and smectic A phases.
